A Watauga man was sentenced for Larceny in a federal court in South Dakota. Arlen Eugene Kern, 57, stole over $1,000 from his place of employment in McIntosh, South Dakota, on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation.
The crime occurred between 2018 and 2020. Kern used a company debit card to misappropriate funds. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2021.
Arlen Eugene Kern pleaded guilty to Larceny on September 12, 2022. He was subsequently sentenced to five years of probation by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on December 5, 2022.
As part of his sentence, Kern was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and restitution in the amount of $9,376.59. He was also required to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Corson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook prosecuted the case.
