BOSTON – In a shocking display of brazen disregard for the law, Phillip Andrew Bauer, a 33-year-old Canadian citizen and former Arlington resident, was sentenced to 82 months in federal prison for stalking and threatening to kill.
According to court documents, Bauer began sending threatening, harassing, and extortionate communications in February 2011, following a domestic altercation. His victim – a family member – received letters while Bauer was incarcerated and even while a restraining order was in effect.
The chilling threats included demands for $50,000 in cash and explicit promises to kill the victim and her siblings. Bauer’s actions were a blatant disregard for the law and a clear display of his contempt for the victim and her family.
U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole, Jr. handed down the sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. Upon release from prison, Bauer will be subject to deportation.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus and David G. Tobin of U.S. Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz’s Major Crimes Unit. The FBI’s Boston Field Division, the Boston Police Department, and the Arlington Police Department worked together to bring Bauer to justice.
The sentencing is a significant victory for the victim and her family, who have endured years of harassment and terror at the hands of Bauer.
Bauer’s case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of stalking and threats on victims and their loved ones. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators to justice.
