Ronald Hall, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, District of Columbia 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A D.C. man will spend the next three years behind bars for a brazen attack on a senior citizen following a minor traffic collision. Ronald Hall, 56, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to 36 months in Superior Court, with 30 months of incarceration and six months suspended, after pleading guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon. The incident, a textbook example of escalating road rage, left the victim fearing for his life.

According to court documents, the trouble began on March 1, 2025, near the 3900 block of East Capitol Street NE. A routine car accident quickly devolved into a dangerous pursuit when Hall allegedly chased the victim through traffic. The situation escalated dramatically when Hall attempted to stab the victim with a knife, turning a fender-bender into a violent assault. Hall was apprehended by officers at the scene.

Superior Court Judge Carmen McLean handed down the sentence on July 29, 2025, delivering a message that such behavior will not be tolerated. Beyond the prison term, Judge McLean also imposed two years of supervised probation following Hall’s release. Crucially, the court mandated that Hall participate in substance abuse treatment and maintain complete abstinence from alcohol as conditions of his probation. The judge clearly believes Hall has issues needing addressed.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing, highlighting the seriousness of the crime. “This case demonstrates the potential for road rage to quickly escalate into violent and dangerous situations,” Pirro stated. “We will continue to prosecute those who resort to violence, especially against vulnerable individuals.” The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nickolas Reck.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith joined in the announcement, praising the swift response and thorough investigation by her officers. “The MPD is committed to ensuring the safety of all residents of the District of Columbia,” Smith said. “We worked diligently to bring this offender to justice, and we are pleased with the outcome.” The investigation was entirely conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked anger and the importance of de-escalation in even minor confrontations. While the victim escaped with his life, the trauma of the attack will undoubtedly linger. Hall’s 30-month sentence, coupled with mandatory treatment, aims to both punish the offender and address the underlying issues that contributed to this violent outburst. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on any further developments.
