Convicted Felon Sentenced to 25 Years for Sawed-Off Shotgun

A convicted felon from Waterloo, Iowa, has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for possessing a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.

Armando Adame, 27, was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by Chief United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand on May 10, 2018. He must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case began on October 25, 2017, when Adame possessed a 12-gauge shotgun. The shotgun had an overall length of 16.77 inches and an approximate barrel length of 10.45 inches, making it a sawed-off shotgun that required registration. Adame, a convicted felon, had not registered the shotgun.

Adame was also found to possess shotgun shells and .22 caliber ammunition on November 17, 2017. The firearms and ammunition were discovered during a search warrant execution at a South Hackett home in Waterloo where Adame was staying.

Adame was previously convicted of conspiring to commit a forcible felony and felon in possession of a firearm. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer.

Armando Adame is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lisa C. Williams and investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, and the Waterloo Police Department.
