Kilwa Jones, Armed Assault, Missouri 2015

St. Louis, MO – In a shocking turn of events, a local man has been charged in a federal indictment involving an armed assault on Arch Property.

Kilwa Jones, a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, was indicted on multiple charges stemming from the September 25, 2015, shooting of Christopher Sanna. The assault, which occurred near the Old Cathedral in the northbound lanes of Memorial Drive, also involved the robberies of both Sanna and his companion, Lisa Simpson.

The indictment charges Jones with one felony count of assault with a dangerous weapon while on federal property, two felony counts of robbery while on federal property, three felony counts of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

If convicted, these various charges carry penalties up to life in prison and/or fines up to $250,000 on each count. In determining the actual sentences, a judge is required to consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, which provide recommended sentencing ranges.

The case was investigated by the detective bureau of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney John Bird is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

As is always the case, charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The incident highlights the ongoing struggle with crime in the St. Louis area. Local residents are calling for increased police presence and tougher penalties for violent offenders.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office has not commented on the case, but sources close to the investigation say that Jones is considered a high-priority target.
