According to authorities, López Gerraughty and his accomplices targeted an Econo store in Cataño on November 4, 2020. The group, armed to the teeth, crashed a truck into the store and threatened a security guard at gunpoint. They then loaded the ATM onto the truck and drove away, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Just nine days later, López Gerraughty and his cohorts struck again, this time at a Toral gas station in Cataño. They crashed a truck through the garage window, threatening an employee at gunpoint. The group then tied a chain around the ATM and dragged it out of the store with the truck, making off with cash and valuables.

The final robbery took place on November 28, 2020, at a Toral gas station in Vega Baja. López Gerraughty and his accomplices crashed a truck through the entrance of the store, threatening an employee with a gun. They then loaded the ATM onto the truck and drove away, leaving a community shaken and in fear.

López Gerraughty, if convicted, faces a mandatory minimum of 21 years in prison. Assistant U.S. Attorney Juan Carlos Reyes of the Violent Crimes and National Security Section is in charge of the prosecution of the case, while the Federal Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation.

While an indictment is merely an allegation, López Gerraughty’s actions have left a community reeling. The people of Puerto Rico demand justice, and it’s up to the courts to deliver.
