A Brazilian national, Helbert Oliveira, 47, has been arrested in Florida for the armed robbery of a cash courier in Framingham, Massachusetts, last November. The heist resulted in the theft of approximately $200,000. Oliveira, who was residing in the US on an expired visa, allegedly conspired with another individual, Curt Porcher, to rob the courier. The motive behind the robbery is still unclear, but the investigation is ongoing.
According to the charging documents, Oliveira pointed a firearm at the victim and took the cash, while Porcher served as the getaway driver in a rented vehicle. Surveillance footage from the robbery is available, but the details of the footage have not been released. The robbery occurred in November, and Oliveira’s co-conspirator, Porcher, was charged by criminal complaint in the District of Massachusetts with Hobbs Act armed robbery and conspiracy.
Oliveira has been charged with Hobbs Act armed robbery and conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act armed robbery. He made his initial appearance in the Southern District of Florida and will appear in Boston at a later date. The charge of Hobbs Act armed robbery, or conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act armed robbery, provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division, with valuable assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Miami Division, and the Marlborough Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Aidan Lang of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting Oliveira.
