Odis Levi Booher, Methamphetamine and Gun Trafficking, New Mexico 2024

Artesia man Odis Levi Booher, 28, is headed to federal prison for a decade after being sentenced to 120 months for methamphetamine and gun crimes. The hard sentence came down today in Las Cruces, N.M., where Booher stood before the court to face the consequences of a trafficking haul that included over half a kilo of meth, a loaded handgun, and $2,205 in cash.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives moved in on Booher on Nov. 15, 2016, after search warrants at his location and on his vehicle turned up 511.2 grams of meth, drug paraphernalia, a firearm, and stacks of unexplained cash. The bust, carried out in Chaves County, painted the picture of a man deep in the business of moving poison through the community.

Booher didn’t fight the charges. On July 18, 2017, he pled guilty to a felony information that included possession of meth with intent to distribute, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and using a handgun in connection with a drug trafficking crime. He admitted in court that the drugs, gun, and ammo were his — and that he had no legal right to any of it.

His criminal history sealed the deal. Booher was already a convicted felon, having served time for residential burglary — a fact he acknowledged made it illegal for him to possess any firearm or ammunition. That prior conviction elevated the stakes, turning a drug bust into a federal slammer with no room for leniency.

The case was built through a joint effort between the ATF’s Las Cruces office and the HIDTA Chaves County Metro Narcotics Task Force — a multi-agency unit that includes the Roswell Police Department, FBI, and Chaves County Sheriff’s Office. Their coordinated push targets high-level traffickers in one of New Mexico’s most active drug corridors.

Prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Dustin C. Segovia, the outcome sends a message: stockpile meth and a gun, and the feds will stack on charges until the sentence sticks. Booher now faces ten long years behind bars — followed by three years of supervised release, where any slip could send him back for good.
