Local Man Suffers Serious Injuries in Brutal Domestic Assault
A shocking case of domestic violence has come to light in South Dakota, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak in its wake. Arthur Taken Alive, a 45-year-old resident of Little Eagle, has been sentenced to 18 months in custody for his role in a brutal domestic assault that left a male victim with serious injuries.
According to court documents, the assault occurred in May 2011, when Taken Alive struck the victim in the face with his fist. The victim suffered serious bodily injury as a result of the attack.
But what makes this case particularly egregious is that Taken Alive had prior convictions for domestic violence in tribal court. In fact, he had been convicted at least twice before for similar offenses.
US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced the sentencing, stating that the case was a clear example of the need for stricter penalties for repeat offenders. ‘This case is a stark reminder of the devastating impact that domestic violence can have on victims and their families,’ Johnson said in a statement.
Assistant US Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case, working closely with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency, to bring Taken Alive to justice. The agency’s investigation was instrumental in gathering evidence and building a case against the defendant.
As a result of his sentencing, Taken Alive will serve 18 months in custody, followed by 4 years of supervised release. He will also be required to pay $1,987.04 in restitution and a $100 special assessment.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of holding repeat offenders accountable for their actions. As one community leader noted, ‘This sentence sends a clear message that domestic violence will not be tolerated in our community.’
Arthur Taken Alive is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshal, where he will begin serving his sentence immediately.
