ABINGDON, Va. – A major methamphetamine supplier in Southwest Virginia took a hit last week as a federal court handed down lengthy prison sentences to Ashley Linden Beverly, Jr. and two related dealers.
Beverly, 51, of Pound, Va., was sentenced to 140 months in federal prison for his role in distributing over five kilograms of methamphetamine in the Wise County area from May 2022 through November 2022.
Beverly, known as ‘the gun guy,’ was also found to have combined methamphetamine distribution with the possession of firearms, some of which were stolen. He frequently traded methamphetamine for firearms, which he would then sell to others.
The 140-month sentence comes as a result of Beverly’s guilty plea to conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, as well as one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.
As a major supplier, Beverly provided methamphetamine to two dealers, Cody Rose, 36, and Brandon Boggs, 35, who were also sentenced last week. Boggs received 108 months, while Rose was handed a 49-month sentence.
The methamphetamine distribution ring was also found to have ties to fentanyl trafficking, with Rose and Boggs involved in bringing the deadly opioid into Southwest Virginia from North Carolina and Kentucky.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Southwest Drug Task Force, and the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lena Busscher prosecuting the case for the United States.
