Ashok Panigrahy, Transport and Possession of Material Depicting the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Pennsylvania 2022

Ashok Panigrahy, a 53-year-old resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of violating federal law regarding the sexual exploitation of a minor, announced United States Attorney Eric G. Olshan today.

The two-count Indictment names Panigrahy as the sole defendant, accusing him of transporting and attempting to transport material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor in interstate commerce, as well as possessing material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor in November 2022.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.

Assistant United States Attorney Heidi M. Grogan is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

Homeland Security Investigations (Pittsburgh and Chicago) conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

According to the Indictment, Panigrahy’s actions violate federal law, which makes it a crime to transport and possess material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor in interstate commerce.

An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
