Assault charges have been filed against three Native American men in Wyoming, rocking the Wind River Indian Reservation community.
Kevin Paul Brown, a 23-year-old Northern Arapaho Tribal Member, has been charged with assault on a federal officer. Brown, who could face up to 20 years in prison and be ordered to pay restitution, a fine, and special assessment, allegedly assaulted a Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer on November 16, 2013.
Another Northern Arapaho Tribal Member, Dustin James Friday, has been charged with assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The 23-year-old allegedly committed the crime on January 14, 2014, and could face up to 10 years in prison and be ordered to pay restitution, a fine, and special assessment.
Matthew Lawrence Antelope, a 29-year-old Northern Arapaho Tribal Member, has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm. Antelope, who allegedly committed the crime on January 28, 2014, could face up to 10 years in prison and be ordered to pay a fine of not more than $250,000, restitution, and a special assessment.
The charges against Brown, Friday, and Antelope were announced by U.S. Attorney Christopher A. Crofts on March 20, 2014.
The incidents, which occurred on the Wind River Indian Reservation, have raised concerns about public safety in the community.
The cases are being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming.
