A Mobridge, South Dakota man, Ed Charles LeClair, IV, has been sentenced for assaulting a federal officer. On January 20, 2015, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno sentenced LeClair to 6 months in custody after he pled guilty to Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the conviction stems from an incident on July 27, 2014, at the Days of 1910 City Celebration in Timber Lake. At the time, a Dewey County Deputy Sheriff was assisting federal law enforcement officers in an arrest of LeClair at the beer tent. LeClair forcibly assaulted the Deputy Sheriff during the arrest.

The investigation was conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson. LeClair was also ordered to pay a $25 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence.

LeClair was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service, where he will serve out his 6-month sentence. Following his release, he will be under supervised release for 1 year.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the sentencing, stating that LeClair’s actions were unacceptable and posed a threat to law enforcement officers.

Ed Charles LeClair, IV, is 22 years old and was living in Mobridge, South Dakota at the time of the incident.
