Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
Orlando, Florida – In a shocking turn of events, a federal jury has found Scott Michael Patrick, a 48-year-old inmate at the Federal Correctional Complex in Coleman, Florida, guilty of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Patrick, who was indicted on October 6, 2010, faces a maximum penalty of ten years in federal prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 19, 2013.
According to evidence presented at trial, Patrick carried out a plan to viciously attack a fellow inmate on February 3, 2007. The attack took place at the victim’s assigned unit, where Patrick began shadow boxing and stretching inside another inmate’s cell. As the victim walked past the cell, Patrick and another inmate began brutally beating the victim.
A third inmate joined in the fight and stabbed the victim six times while Patrick continued to strike the victim until he collapsed to the floor, smacking his head against a metal kick plate. The victim died as a result of the attack.
This heinous crime was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Vincent Citro and James Mandolfo.
