Ronald Gene Thomas Pleads Guilty to Assaulting a Federal Officer
Tulsa, OK – In a disturbing turn of events, Ronald Gene Thomas, 38, has pleaded guilty to Assaulting a Federal Officer in an attempt to evade capture.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, the incident occurred on June 9, 2015, when law enforcement tracked Thomas to a home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Thomas was spotted driving a truck and ordered to surrender. However, Thomas drove his truck straight at a Deputy United States Marshal in order to force him to get out of his way so he could evade capture.
Thomas’s reckless actions not only put the Deputy Marshal’s life at risk but also endangered the public. Fortunately, the officer was able to avoid the truck, but the incident highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers every day.
Thomas escaped from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester, Oklahoma, on June 8, 2015. A team of law enforcement officers, including the United States Marshals Services, the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Investigators, and the Eastern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force, were assembled to apprehend Thomas.
After a high-speed chase, Thomas was apprehended days later. His guilty plea is a significant development in the case, and he will be sentenced on July 13, 2016, by United States District Court Judge John E. Dowdell.
