ATF Agents Ambushed in Gary Shooting
Two suspects have been charged in connection with the shooting of ATF agents during an undercover operation in Gary, Indiana. Blake King, 19, of Chicago and Bernard Graham, 25, of Calumet City, face serious charges after allegedly firing upon ATF Special Agents.
According to documents, the incident occurred during an ATF undercover operation in the City of Gary. The suspects allegedly opened fire on the agents, who were engaged in their official duties. The shooting resulted in bodily injury to the agents.
King and Graham have been charged with forcibly assaulting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, and interfering with Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives while they were engaged in the performance of their official duties. They are also charged with using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to, and possessing in furtherance of a crime of violence, a firearm that was discharged.
U.S. Attorney Kirsch emphasized the severity of the crime, stating, ‘Gun violence doesn’t stop at the state line and neither do government investigations. We will continue to coordinate with law enforcement and prosecutors in this jurisdiction and others, including Northern Illinois, to defeat these criminals. We will never tolerate gun violence and never stop doing all we can to defeat it.’
The case is being investigated by the ATF, with assistance from several other agencies, including the FBI, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, and local law enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas Mahoney and Nicholas Padilla are handling the case.
King and Graham are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If convicted, they face serious penalties under federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers and the importance of holding accountable those who commit violent crimes.
