Atlantic Beach Attorney Charged with Embezzlement

Jacksonville, Florida – A shocking case of corruption has unfolded in the Sunshine State, as a prominent attorney stands accused of embezzling from a bankruptcy estate.

William Reid Penuel, a 37-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach resident, was arraigned in federal court yesterday and released on a $50,000 bond. If convicted, the seasoned attorney faces up to five years in federal prison on each of the two counts against him.

According to the indictment, Penuel, while serving as the Chapter 7 Trustee in a business bankruptcy case, embezzled estate funds held in a BB&T bank account between March 2015 and July 2015. The indictment further alleges that, on August 19, 2015, Penuel lied to an FBI agent when he claimed that he had transferred the estate funds to his account at Ameris Bank. In fact, Penuel did not have an account at Ameris Bank.

The indictment, which serves as a formal charge, does not necessarily imply guilt. As stated by the FBI, every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The Jacksonville office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation, which will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dale Campion.

Penuel’s alleged actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and the trust placed in him as a Chapter 7 Trustee. The consequences of his actions, if convicted, will be severe and serve as a warning to others who would seek to exploit the system.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability in positions of power. As a respected member of the legal community, Penuel’s actions have shaken the trust of the public and his peers.

The case is set to unfold in the coming weeks, with Penuel’s fate hanging in the balance. Will he be found guilty of embezzlement, or will he walk free? Only time will tell. In the meantime, the people of Jacksonville and beyond demand justice and transparency in the face of corruption.
