A brutal killing in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary led to a lengthy prison sentence for a Tulsa resident.
Austin Isaac Furr, 23, of Glenpool, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 80 months in prison for Voluntary Manslaughter in Indian Country, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges arose from investigations by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Office of the Inspector General.
On October 11, 2023, Austin Furr pleaded guilty to the charge. According to investigators, on September 26, 2021, Furr was involved in an altercation with his cellmate that turned deadly.
During the struggle, Furr allegedly killed his cellmate by stabbing and strangling him.
The crimes occurred in Pittsburg County, within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing.
Furr will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Howanitz represented the United States.
