Phoenix, Ariz. – A Chandler man was sentenced to time served for making online threats against a file storage and file sharing company.
Austin Ryan Steinbart, 30, was sentenced to 225 days in prison, which he had already served, for his role in interstate communications with intent to extort.
Steinbart, a YouTube personality, made threats against the company in March 2020, after his account was suspended. He directed his thousands of subscribers to flood the company’s tech support line with fictitious emails and phone calls.
Steinbart pleaded guilty to the Class E felony in an attempt to hinder the company’s operations.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation, and the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, handled the prosecution.
Steinbart’s case highlights the dangers of online harassment and the importance of taking threats seriously.
