Tucson Stalker Arrested for Cyberstalking, Interstate Threats
A 29-year-old Tucson man has been arrested for cyberstalking and transmitting interstate threats to a University of Arizona student.
Caleb Alfred Tifft, 29, of Tucson, was taken into custody on May 8, 2024, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Southern Arizona Violent Crime and Gang Task Force on a federal indictment warrant.
Tifft is accused of sending a threatening message to the victim via Facebook Messenger on February 7, 2024, stating, “Think I’ll just go rape and kill a girl at this point. I give up. I’m the bad guy.”
Despite being served with an Injunction Against Harassment and a 12-month Exclusionary Order from all University of Arizona properties, Tifft allegedly continued to cyberstalk the victim. On March 1, 2024, he made two anonymous 911 calls to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the University of Arizona Police Department, claiming a friend was planning a mass shooting.
However, investigators were able to identify Tifft as the caller, and he turned himself in to the FBI on an indictment warrant. A conviction for Cyberstalking and Transmitting Interstate Threats carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both, and a maximum term of three years of supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Rossi is handling the prosecution, and the case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the University of Arizona Police Department as part of the FBI’s Southern Arizona Violent Crime and Gang Task Force.
