Baltimore’s Avon Allen, 36, was today sentenced by U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake to four years in federal prison for possession of a stolen firearm. Following his release from prison, he will face three years of supervised release.
According to United States Attorney Erek L. Barron; Special Agent Timothy Jones of the ATF Baltimore Field Division; and Commissioner Michael Harrison of the Baltimore Police Department, Allen’s sentencing was announced following a thorough investigation by law enforcement.
The incident began on January 20, 2020, when Allen had an argument with a store owner in Baltimore and threw a beverage at him. The altercation led to a police response, which resulted in surveillance footage that matched Allen’s clothing description. He was apprehended after fleeing from the scene and resisting arrest.
During his capture, Allen possessed a stolen 9 mm pistol loaded with six rounds of ammunition, a pocket-knife, oxycodone, and small amounts of eutylone or ‘MDMA’. His plea agreement acknowledges that he knowingly possessed the stolen firearm.
Attorney Barron commended the ATF and Baltimore Police for their diligent work on the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Moore and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Annie McGuire were credited with prosecuting the case to a successful conclusion.
