BALTIMORE, MD – A Baltimore man is facing federal charges after a brutal attack on a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier earlier this month. Jamie Paul Taylor, 47, was indicted by a federal grand jury for assaulting a federal employee, specifically the postal worker, with a deadly weapon – a knife.
The incident unfolded on June 11, 2025, in the 3100 block of Strickland Street. According to the indictment, Taylor allegedly accosted the letter carrier, challenging their identity as a USPS employee. Witnesses and the victim report Taylor stormed into his residence, retrieved a knife, and then launched an attack on the unsuspecting postal worker.
The victim sustained injuries to both his finger and elbow while attempting to escape the assault. The situation escalated further when Taylor allegedly threw the knife at the fleeing postal worker before being subdued by the victim and bystanders. The swift action of those present prevented what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, Kelly O. Hayes, announced the indictment alongside Postal Inspector in Charge Damon E. Wood of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) – Washington Division, and Baltimore Police Department Commissioner Richard Worley. The collaborative investigation highlights the commitment of federal and local authorities to protecting those who serve the public.
If convicted, Taylor faces a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars. While the maximum is steep, actual sentencing typically falls below that threshold, determined by a federal district court judge considering U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant factors. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Rigney is prosecuting the case.
It’s crucial to remember that this indictment represents allegations only. Jamie Paul Taylor is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
