Baltimore Man Sentenced to Three Years for Child Pornography Possession

Baltimore, MD – In a stern message against online child exploitation, Baltimore resident Jason Lewis Schwamberger, 39, was sentenced today to three years in federal prison for possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge George L. Russell, III also imposed a mandatory 20 years of supervised release, ordering that Schwamberger register as a sex offender under SORNA wherever he lives, works, or studies.

The sentence was announced by Maryland’s United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein, FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen E. Vogt, and Maryland State Police Lt. Colonel Anthony C. Satchell. Schwamberger was charged after Maryland State Police investigators downloaded child pornography files he had shared via a file-sharing program in May 2013.

A subsequent search warrant at his residence on September 13, 2013, yielded evidence of Schwamberger’s criminal activity, including over 1,000 images and 180 video files depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. His computer, external hard drives, thumb drive, and numerous CDs/DVDs were seized.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative aimed at combating the epidemic of child sexual exploitation. The project unites federal, state, and local agencies to locate, arrest, and prosecute those who exploit children. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.justice.gov/psc.

United States Attorney Rosenstein thanked the FBI and Maryland State Police for their diligence in this investigation, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul E. Budlow was commended for his prosecution of Schwamberger.
