Baltimore, Maryland – In a relentless pursuit to stamp out drug trafficking in the city, Desmond Jones, 45, from Baltimore, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes led the announcement of the plea, joined by a host of federal agents and local law enforcement officers.
The investigation into Jones, which began in August 2023, revealed his connection to a drug trafficking organization (DTO) distributing vast quantities of cocaine. Through surveillance at CC-1’s residence, where numerous drug traffickers met, investigators pinpointed Jones as a key figure in the DTO.
On August 16, Jones was observed with a weighted-down bag at CC-1’s home, and law enforcement followed this lead to recover another large bag on August 21. The contents of these bags were substantially smaller upon departure, suggesting their heavy cargo was drugs, not luggage.
A week later, CC-1 returned from California, and investigators set up a surveillance team at Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI). Another team followed Jones to his stash location in Timonium, Maryland, where they intercepted the DTO’s activity. A total of 32 kilogram packages of cocaine were recovered, alongside equipment for processing bulk drugs.
Jones’s plea comes as a significant victory for federal and local law enforcement in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Baltimore. The charges against him carry substantial penalties, underscoring the severity of the crime he is accused of committing.
