In a devastating blow to the Rhode Island underworld, seven individuals have been charged in a massive fentanyl trafficking operation that brought in over 700 grams of the deadly substance, along with seven firearms and other illicit goods.
A 13-count indictment unsealed in U.S. District Court in Providence charges Jose Rodriguez Morales, aka ‘Bam Bam,’ 28, of Providence, with conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, conspiracy to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl, unlawful possession of a machinegun, unlawful possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and unlawful dealing in firearms.
Morales, described as a key player in the operation, allegedly arranged for the sale and delivery of the illicit goods, including at least 700 grams of fentanyl pills, 104 grams of fentanyl powder, 96 grams of cocaine, and seven firearms, including an AR-15, two semi-automatic handguns, three handguns, and a Glock switch. His associates, including two of his brothers, allegedly made deliveries that were surveilled by law enforcement.
The investigation, led by the FBI Safe Street Task Force, included the execution of multiple search warrants in Providence and Central Falls on June 12, 2025. Morales was arrested on June 12, 2025, and ordered detained in federal custody.
Additional defendants charged in the indictment include Iven Rodriguez Morales, 30, of Central Falls, Bryan Pacheco Morales, 23, of Central Falls, Edgar Aviles Cruz, 33, of Central Falls, Jashua Encarnacion, 25, of Central Falls, and Carlos Figuereo, 24, of Providence. Christian Carrion, 32, of Pawtucket, was also charged with distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
The cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
A federal indictment is merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. But in this case, the evidence speaks for itself: a massive fentanyl trafficking operation that put countless lives at risk.
The indictment alleges that Morales and his associates trafficked over 700 grams of fentanyl, including 700 grams of fentanyl pills, 104 grams of fentanyl powder, and 96 grams of cocaine. The operation also brought in seven firearms, including an AR-15, two semi-automatic handguns, three handguns, and a Glock switch.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward. As for Morales and his co-defendants, they face stiff penalties if convicted, including lengthy prison sentences and significant fines.
In the meantime, the people of Rhode Island can rest a little easier knowing that justice is being served and that those responsible for this heinous crime will be held accountable.
