In a daring daylight heist, a lone bandit ambushed the manager of the First National Bank of Southern Maryland in Marlow Heights, making off with a whopping $30,568. The brazen robbery took place yesterday when bank manager O. Robert Bellner, 38, was driving to work. The thief, described as a limping bandit, pointed a gun at Bellner and made off with the cash, much of which was in marked bills, according to L. H. Mattingly, president of the bank.
The FBI is now on the hunt for the culprit, who is believed to be driving a two-tone green 1958 Chevrolet sedan with South Carolina license plate number E114573A. The car was rented in Columbia, S.C. on July 1 and never returned. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and help track down the elusive bandit.
The investigation is still in its early stages, but one thing is clear: this was no ordinary robbery. The fact that the thief was able to rent a car and commit the crime in broad daylight suggests a level of planning and sophistication that has left law enforcement officials scratching their heads.
The search for the limping bandit is ongoing, with the FBI working around the clock to track down leads and gather evidence. Meanwhile, the community is left to wonder: who is behind this brazen crime, and how will they be brought to justice?
