Robert Morris, Armed Hostage Situation, Hawaii 2024

HONOLULU – A dramatic 16-hour armed standoff culminated in the arrest of Robert Morris, 49, who faced a gauntlet of charges after a shootout with federal officers. During an attempt to execute a search warrant at Morris’s Honolulu residence, he opened fire, striking a DEA Task Force Officer and forcing law enforcement into a fierce exchange.

According to court documents, the confrontation began early on October 21, 2025. As federal agents prepared to enter Morris’s home, they were met with gunfire from within. Despite return fire, Morris maintained his stance inside the residence, even broadcasting a Facebook Live stream during the standoff.

Morris finally surrendered after approximately sixteen hours of tense negotiation and was taken into custody. Agents found a .40 caliber firearm on the scene, which Morris admitted to using in the shootout. Acting United States Attorney Ken Sorenson announced that Morris has been charged with assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon, using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon.

If convicted, Morris faces a maximum sentence of 20 years for the assault charge, 15 years for being a felon in possession of firearms, and at least 25 years to life for using a firearm in furtherance of a crime. The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a DOJ initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations.

The investigation was led by the FBI with support from DEA, ATF, Honolulu PD, and Hawaii Department of Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Albanese will handle the prosecution.
