In a brazen display of brazen crime, Ronald M. Leach Jr., 42, was indicted for two counts of bank robbery in a federal grand jury hearing.

According to the indictment, Leach is accused of stealing cash from two Capital One Bank branches in the Westbank area of New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 15 and May 14, 2013.

The first alleged robbery took place at the 4601 Westbank Expressway location, where Leach handed a demand note to the teller and stuffed a bag with an undisclosed amount of cash. Fingerprints from the note, which were later matched to the defendant, were a crucial piece of evidence in the case.

The second alleged robbery occurred on April 15, 2013, at the 91 Westbank Expressway branch. Again, Leach produced a demand note and collected an undisclosed amount of cash. A fingerprint from the note also linked the defendant to the crime.

U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. If convicted, Leach faces a maximum penalty of 20 years and/or a fine of $250,000 on each count.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Michael E. McMahon handling the prosecution.

The indictment serves as a warning to would-be bank robbers: we will leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of justice.
