Bank Robber Sentenced to 10 Years
Forth Worth, Texas
A 29-year-old man from Forth Worth has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his involvement in two bank robberies in the city.
Montray Lorenzo Cato was found guilty of two counts of bank robbery in November 2012. Judge John McBryde sentenced him to 120 months in prison, and ordered him to pay $7,747 in restitution.
The robberies took place in the summer of 2012 at two branches of the First Convenience Bank. On June 13, 2012, Cato robbed the bank located inside a Kroger store at 6650 North Beach Street. He struck again on July 28, 2012, at the bank located inside a Walmart at 6756 West Vickery. On both occasions, he wore similar clothing and held a cell phone to his ear during the robbery.
Cato was arrested on August 29, 2012, after employees at a First Convenience Bank recognized him loitering in the store. Officers discovered a realistic plastic replica of a firearm in his waistband and no money or credit cards on his person.
The case was investigated by the Fort Worth Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew Gulde and Megan Fahey prosecuted the case.
Cato’s sentence reflects the severity of the crimes he committed. The sentence will serve as a warning to those who engage in similar acts of violence and crime in the community.
