New York – A chilling tale of brazen bank heists has brought three alleged robbers to the attention of federal prosecutors. U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman and Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. announced charges against Jason Parris, Demetrice Young, and Iyibia Brown for robbing a KeyBank branch in New City, NY, on February 9, 2018.
Parris, 34, of Nyack, and Young, 27, of Spring Valley, are accused of entering the bank masked and armed with a firearm, threatening employees before making off with cash. Their getaway was brief; all three were apprehended that same day by law enforcement.
According to Berman, Parris and Young threatened lives during the heist. ‘The pair’s actions endangered the public, and their capture is a testament to swift police work,’ he said.
Sweeney Jr. commended the efforts of local law enforcement agencies, highlighting the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Gang Task Force’s role in apprehending the suspects. ‘Great police work put these armed criminals behind bars,’ he added.
Clarkstown Police Chief Raymond McCullagh emphasized collaboration among law enforcement agencies, noting that ‘this arrest was a direct result of teamwork to ensure public safety.’ The trio faces serious charges: conspiracy to commit bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during the crime. Parris and Young also face life sentences if convicted of brandishing a firearm.
The case is now in the hands of Assistant United States Attorney Celia V. Cohen, who is leading the prosecution. As Berman reminded, ‘The charges contained in the complaint are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.’
