Barrett Johnson, 34, of Jamestown, NY, is going down for 30 months after being convicted of possession with intent to distribute MDA, commonly known as ‘Molly’—a Schedule I controlled substance. The sentence, handed down by Chief U.S. District Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr., marks the end of a sordid operation that used Johnson’s barbershop as a backdoor drug den.
U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy Jr. confirmed the sentencing today in Buffalo, N.Y., where federal prosecutors detailed how Johnson repeatedly sold the synthetic stimulant to users and lower-level dealers. The transactions weren’t hidden in alleyways—they happened in plain sight, inside the very chairs where customers came for clean cuts and close shaves.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Adler, who prosecuted the case, laid bare the supply chain: Johnson bought ‘Molly’ from co-defendant Richard Clarke and flipped it to others, including Joshua Castro, who also faced conviction. This wasn’t casual dealing—it was a structured operation with repeat transactions and dedicated distributors.
Both Clarke and Castro are now facing time behind bars, sealing the collapse of a small but persistent drug network that exploited community spaces for criminal gain. Authorities say the barbershop served as both a front and a distribution hub, blurring the line between service and sin.
The takedown was the result of a joint investigation led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations—under Special Agent-in-Charge Kevin Kelly—and the Border Enforcement Security Taskforce. That coalition includes cross-border forces: the Ontario Provincial Police, Niagara Regional Police, Peel Regional Police, and Toronto Police Services, underscoring the regional reach of the operation.
With MDA linked to hallucinations, paranoia, and overdose risks, federal officials are sending a message: no front, no trade, no excuse will shield dealers.
