Bausch and Lannett Hit with $17.85M Fine for Generic Drug Price Fixing

New York Attorney General Letitia James has secured a landmark $17.85 million settlement from pharmaceutical giants Bausch and Lannett, stemming from their involvement in a conspiracy to inflate the prices of generic drugs.

The investigation, which spans several years, reveals a widespread scheme that saw drug companies collude to raise costs on essential medications by as much as 1,000 percent. The impacted generics included treatments for diabetes, cancer, ADHD, and other life-altering conditions.

Attorney General James emphasized the significance of the victory for New Yorkers who have been victimized by these price manipulations. ‘Access to affordable prescription drugs is a necessity for millions of New Yorkers,’ she said. ‘My office is taking action to hold these companies accountable and get consumers their money back.’

New Yorkers who purchased listed generics between May 2009 and December 2019 may be eligible for compensation. To check eligibility, consumers can call 1-866-290-0182, email info@AGGenericDrugs.com, or visit www.AGGenericDrugs.com.

The settlements are the result of a multi-state lawsuit that has seen numerous pharmaceutical companies targeted for similar price-fixing schemes. The lawsuits accuse the companies of engaging in systematic conspiracies to fix prices, limit competition, and rig bids on more than 100 generic drugs. Executives from several companies have entered into settlement agreements and are cooperating with the investigation.

The Attorney General’s office is urging any New Yorkers who believe they were affected by this scheme to submit their information as claims begin to be processed.
