A Parker woman has been sentenced to 42 months in prison for her role in a fatal vehicular assault on the Colorado River Indian Tribes Reservation.
Beatrice Denise Welsh, 40, was found guilty by a federal jury of assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The crime occurred on June 19, 2017, after Welsh consumed alcohol and sped around a 90-degree corner in a vehicle with faulty brakes.
The pickup rolled, ejecting a non-tribal member passenger who was permanently paralyzed as a result.
Welsh, a member of the Colorado River Indian Tribes, was driving on the reservation when the incident occurred.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado River Indian Tribal Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Abbie Broughton Marsh and Ryan Powell handled the prosecution in the case.
The case number is CR-16-325-PHX-DLR and the release number is 2017-055_Welsh.
Welsh’s sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Douglas L. Rayes.
