BEAUMONT, Texas – Terrence Ewing Syler, a 70-year-old orthodontist from Beaumont, has entered a guilty plea in the Eastern District of Texas for health care fraud violations, according to U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.
Syler, who owned and operated Syler Orthodontics, faces up to 10 years in federal prison after admitting to submitting false claims for palatal expanders that were never provided to his patients between January 2007 and October 2012.
The scheme resulted in $829,333 being funneled into Syler’s accounts. As part of his plea agreement, he has agreed to forfeit several bank accounts totaling just over $829,000.
