A brutal assault has left a woman scarred, both physically and emotionally. Bennie Lee Holtsoi, 27, of Chinle, Ariz., was sentenced to 59 months’ imprisonment on March 12, 2018, for assaulting his then-girlfriend, a member of the Navajo Nation.
The attack occurred in June 2016, resulting in multiple lacerations and abrasions to her scalp and body. Holtsoi, also a member of the Navajo Nation, has been held accountable for his actions.
Navajo Nation Criminal Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kiyoko Patterson handling the prosecution.
Holtsoi pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Douglas L. Rayes.
The case, CR-16-8266-PCT-DLR, serves as a reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. This incident highlights the need for education and awareness about domestic violence and the resources available to victims.
