A 43-year-old man from Hotevilla, Arizona, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for assaulting a federal officer while on supervised release. Edgar Louis Rogers was sentenced by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow for the crime, which occurred on the Hopi Reservation.

The incident happened when a law enforcement officer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs approached Rogers, who resisted the contact and a scuffle ensued, leaving the officer with an injury to their finger. At the time of the incident, Rogers was on supervised release for a violent domestic assault he committed on the Hopi Reservation in 2013.

Rogers had previously pleaded guilty to assault on a federal officer and admitted to violating the terms of his supervised release in a separate case. Judge Snow sentenced Rogers to 18 months in prison for the assault and an additional three months in prison for violating his supervised release.
