PHOENIX – In a stunning turn of events, Edgar Louis Rogers, 43, from Hotevilla, Ariz., was yesterday sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for assaulting a federal officer while on supervised release. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow, came after Rogers pleaded guilty to the assault and admitted violating his supervised release terms.
The violent encounter took place when a Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) law enforcement officer attempted to make contact with Rogers on the Hopi Reservation. The confrontation escalated into a physical scuffle, leaving the officer’s finger injured. At that time, Rogers was already serving supervised release for a previous assault on a domestic partner he had committed in 2013.
According to authorities, the Bureau of Indian Affairs conducted the investigation into this latest incident. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Ducat Keller, representing the District of Arizona in Phoenix, handled the prosecution.
Rogers was initially sentenced to 18 months for the assault charge and an additional three months for violating his supervised release conditions. The case numbers are CR-17-08161-PCT-GMS and CR-14-08007-PCT-GMS, with release number 2018-021_Rogers.
This latest sentence adds to Rogers’ criminal record, which has been marked by violence and disregard for the law.
