A Berkeley County man has admitted to using a phone to distribute heroin in the county.
Demitre McCoy White, 40, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Unlawful Use of Communication Device’ in a federal court on [date].
According to court documents, White used a phone to help distribute heroin in December 2020.
White faces up to four years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will be based on the seriousness of the offense and White’s prior criminal history, if any.
The case was investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lara Omps-Botteicher and Timothy D. Helman are prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the hearing.
The guilty plea is a significant blow to White’s freedom and could have far-reaching consequences for his future.
