Grimy Times – Bernard L. Mosley, Jr., Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Illinois 2022

A convicted felon from East St. Louis, Illinois, has been sentenced to 84 months in federal prison for being in possession of a firearm, a crime that’s punishable by law. Bernard L. Mosley, Jr., 23, was arrested on August 4, 2020, by the United States Marshals Service at a house in East St. Louis.

At the time of his arrest, Mosley was in possession of a loaded handgun. Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or firearm ammunition. A federal grand jury indicted Mosley in October of 2020, and he pled guilty on February 22, 2022.

The investigation was a joint effort by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Illinois State Police.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ali Burns and David Dean prosecuted the case.

Mosley will serve a two-year term of supervised release following his release from federal prison. His sentence was handed down on April 26, 2022.

This case highlights the importance of enforcing federal laws that prohibit convicted felons from possessing firearms. It’s a serious crime that can have severe consequences, and it’s essential that law enforcement agencies work together to keep our communities safe.
