Bianca Bush-Bronson, Wire Fraud, District of Columbia 2017

Bianca Bush-Bronson, 38, of Washington, D.C., is headed to federal prison for three years after stealing at least $340,000 from her employer, a consulting and lobbying firm where she served as office manager. The DOJ announced the sentencing following her January 18, 2017, conviction in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Bush-Bronson pleaded guilty in April 2016 to one count of wire fraud, admitting she orchestrated a months-long scheme from June 2011 to October 2012 to siphon money from the company’s accounts. As the person responsible for financial operations—including check preparation, bank deposits, and account reconciliation—she exploited her position to issue unauthorized checks totaling at least $80,000 to herself, to cash, and to third parties for personal gain.

She used the stolen funds for a down payment on a car, mortgage payments, and even a visit to her dentist. To cover her tracks, Bush-Bronson falsified internal financial records, masking the thefts from oversight. But that was only part of the haul.

The former office manager also ran up at least $260,000 in unauthorized charges on the company’s credit card. The spending spree spanned luxury retailers, jewelry stores, department stores, salons, high-end restaurants, airline tickets, and hotel stays—none of which benefited the firm. She additionally secured $1,470 in unauthorized parking benefits, rounding out the total take to over $340,000.

Sentenced by Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, Bush-Bronson will serve three years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. A formal restitution order will be determined by the court at a later date, but the financial damage to “Company A” is already severe.

U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and FBI Assistant Director in Charge Paul M. Abbate praised the investigation led by the FBI’s Washington Field Office. They also recognized key staff from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, including paralegals Aisha Keys, Tasha Harris, Heather Sales, legal assistant Angela Lawrence, and prosecutors Michelle A. Zamarin and David A. Last, who brought the case to resolution.
