Ryan L. Gibbs, a/k/a ‘Blood,’ 34, of Carbondale, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.
A federal indictment unsealed on April 23, 2015, alleges that Gibbs committed the offense on September 16, 2014, in Jackson County.
Gibbs made his initial appearance in federal court on May 4, 2015, and was ordered held without bond, pending a jury trial scheduled for July 6, 2015. The cocaine offense carries a penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison, followed by 3 years’ supervised release, and a fine of $1,000,000.
Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson has been assigned to prosecute the case. The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Carbondale Police Department, and the Illinois Department of Corrections. The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
The United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced the charges against Gibbs.
Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
