Bloods Brothers Get Decades For Murder & Heroin

MANHATTAN, NY – Justice came down hard today for two Bloods gang members, brothers Burnell Scott, a/k/a “B.U.,” and Burchanti Scott, a/k/a “Napp.” Burnell Scott, 25 years. Burchanti Scott, 11 years. Both received their sentences in Manhattan federal court after admitting to their roles in a heroin distribution network and, in Burnell’s case, the cold-blooded murder of Kason Pinnick, a/k/a “Marijuana,” back in 2005.

Acting United States Attorney Joon H. Kim didn’t mince words. “As they admitted in their guilty pleas, Burnell and Burchanti Scott, brothers and longtime members of the Bloods street gang, distributed heroin and used violence to protect their drug distribution territory,” Kim stated. “Burnell Scott in fact shot and killed Kason Pinnick over a territorial dispute in Paterson, New Jersey. Today, each brother was sentenced to the lengthy prison term their crimes merit.”

Burchanti Scott previously pled guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin. The investigation revealed a network operating from 2012 through 2014. His brother, Burnell Scott, went further. He pled guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin, spanning from 2005 to 2014. But the heroin wasn’t his only crime.

According to court filings, Burnell Scott, a member of the G-Shine set of the Bloods, gunned down Kason Pinnick on September 28, 2005, in Paterson, New Jersey. The shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute over drug territory. Scott reportedly encountered Pinnick near Twelfth Avenue and East 23rd Street, pulled a firearm, and fired multiple rounds at point-blank range, striking Pinnick in the head and killing him. He was arrested on October 30, 2013, and finally admitted guilt in February 2016.

Burchanti Scott, a high-ranking member of the Fruit Town Brims set of the Bloods, also relied on violence and intimidation to safeguard his drug operation. He was taken into federal custody on March 18, 2014, while already incarcerated within the New Jersey Department of Corrections. He entered his guilty plea on August 17, 2016. The brothers’ combined offenses paint a grim picture of gang violence and drug trafficking that plagued the streets of Paterson and beyond.

U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain handed down the sentences. Kim praised the collaborative work of the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force (Newark Division), the Paterson Police Department, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Clifton Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police. The case was overseen by the Office’s Violent and Organized Crime Unit, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Justina L. Geraci leading the prosecution. This conviction sends a clear message: the Grimy Times will continue to follow these cases and report on the justice served.
