Carlos Walker, Methamphetamine Trafficking, Louisiana 2023

BOGALUSA, LOUISIANA – In a gritty turn of events, Carlos Walker, 33, from Bogalusa, Louisiana, has entered a guilty plea on January 31, 2023, to violating both the Federal Gun Control and Controlled Substances Acts. The charges include possession of a firearm and methamphetamine, as well as using a gun in furtherance of drug trafficking.

According to grim court documents, the Bogalusa Police Department’s keen eye led to Walker’s undoing on September 24, 2021. After spotting his black Nissan Altima with a non-functioning headlight, officers noticed Walker kicking his legs as if hiding something under the seat. A warrant for his arrest was confirmed, and he was taken into custody.

During a search, police discovered $4,000 in cash, a Taurus Model G2C handgun, and 17 grams of methamphetamine. Walker’s past criminal record, including previous felony drug convictions, only added to the severity of his current charges.

Walker faces significant punishment for his crimes. The felon in possession count could land him ten years behind bars, with fines reaching $250,000. For possession with intent to distribute, he faces a possible sentence of twenty years, up to $1 million in fines, and at least three years of supervised release. The firearm charge adds a mandatory minimum of five years, potentially leading to life imprisonment.

This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence. Investigated by the ATF, Bogalusa PD, and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, it was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney André Jones.

Walker must now pay a $100 special assessment fee for each count of conviction, marking the end of another chapter in Louisiana’s fight against drug trafficking and gun violence.
