Grimy Times Exclusive: A Jackson man faces 144 months in federal prison after being sentenced for assaulting an ATF agent and discharging a firearm. De’Vadrick Markevin Booker, 24, was sentenced February 8, 2023, following a November 2022 trial that resulted in a guilty verdict.
The incident occurred on September 8, 2020, when Booker opened fire at an ATF agent responding to a gunfire exchange. Miraculously, the agent escaped with no injuries.
“By the grace of God, this federal agent did not become a statistic,” said U.S. Attorney Darren LaMarca. “The citizens of Jackson are safer today thanks to this sentence.”
Special Agent in Charge Kurt Thielhorn emphasized collaboration among law enforcement agencies in reducing violent crime. “ATF will continue to protect our communities and hold accountable those who threaten our safety,” he said.
The investigation was led by the ATF, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica S. Terrill, Kevin J. Payne, and Bert Carraway prosecuting the case.
Booker’s sentence sends a clear message: violence against law enforcement will be met with severe punishment.
