Euridice Borroto, 45, of Miami, has entered a guilty plea in the Southern District of Florida for her involvement in a massive $6.5 million health care fraud scheme.
Borroto, who served as a patient recruiter at Nestor’s Health Services Inc., pleaded before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman for conspiracy to solicit and receive health care kickbacks and to defraud the United States. Sentencing is set for August 25, 2014.
The fraudulent scheme was centered around Nestor HH, which falsely billed Medicare for expensive home health and physical therapy services that were either unnecessary or not provided at all. Borroto received bribes and kickbacks for enrolling patients who did not qualify for the services, according to court documents.
Between March 2009 and January 2014, Nestor HH submitted over $6.5 million in fraudulent claims, with Medicare paying out more than $6.1 million before the fraud was uncovered.
Assistant Attorney General Leslie R. Caldwell of the DOJ’s Criminal Division and U.S. Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer praised the collaborative efforts of the FBI, HHS-OIG, and the Medicare Fraud Strike Force in bringing this case to justice.
The Medicare Fraud Strike Force has charged nearly 1,900 defendants since its establishment in 2007, collectively billing over $6 billion to the Medicare program. For more information on health care fraud prevention, visit www.stopmedicarefraud.gov.
