Boston Man Plotted Wife & Boyfriend Murders

BOSTON – A desperate act of domestic malice has landed a Boston man in federal custody. Mohammed Chowdhury, 46, has been indicted on two counts of use of interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire, stemming from a chilling plot to eliminate his wife and her new boyfriend. Chowdhury has been detained since his initial arrest on January 17, 2023, and now faces a potential decade behind bars.

The scheme unraveled after an individual alerted federal authorities in November 2022 to Chowdhury’s sinister intentions. He’d already attempted to commission the hit once, handing over money to someone who ultimately backed out. Undeterred, Chowdhury reportedly doubled down, telling the initial contact he’d resort to robbery to secure the funds needed to finish the job. This prompted a swift response from law enforcement, who deployed an undercover agent posing as a seasoned contract killer.

Over the course of December 2022 and January 2023, Chowdhury repeatedly met with the undercover operative and their associates, laying out his plan in disturbing detail. According to charging documents, his motive wasn’t simply rage, but a perceived injustice: his wife’s refusal to allow him access to their children. He allegedly sought not only their deaths but also a violent assault beforehand, hoping to deflect suspicion. “So how we gonna disappear his, uh, body?” he allegedly asked, obsessively demanding “No evidence. No evidence.” He provided photos, addresses, work schedules – a complete dossier for a professional hit.

The price for the double murder was set at $4,000, with Chowdhury offering a $500 deposit. On January 17th, he allegedly delivered the down payment, explicitly confirming his intent for the killings to proceed. That’s when federal agents moved in, taking him into custody before the plot could move any further. The entire operation was a calculated trap, and Chowdhury walked right into it.

This isn’t Chowdhury’s first brush with the law in this case. Back in October 2019, he was charged in Boston Municipal Court with violating an Abuse Prevention Order protecting his wife. He pleaded to sufficient facts and received a continuance without a finding – a slap on the wrist that seemingly did little to deter his escalating behavior. Now, he’s facing significantly steeper consequences.

If convicted, Chowdhury faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Luke A. Goldworm and John T. Dawley of the Criminal Division. U.S. Attorney Rachael S. Rollins and FBI Special Agent in Charge Joseph R. Bonavolonta announced the indictment, praising the collaborative effort with the Boston Police Department. It’s crucial to remember that these are allegations, and Chowdhury is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
