A convicted felon walked into federal court Tuesday and admitted to carrying a loaded .22-caliber revolver—just months after Louisiana parole officers caught him stashing the weapon in his waistband during a home visit. Jeffrey Dale Clark Jr., 36, of Boyce, Louisiana, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Dee D. Drell on charges stemming from the May 29, 2018 discovery.
That day, Louisiana State Probation and Parole officers arrived at Clark’s residence for a routine check. As they approached, Clark was seen in the yard and immediately began walking away. When ordered to turn around, he was caught patting his pockets. Officers asked if he was armed—he pulled out a knife. A subsequent search revealed the ROHM, Model RG10, .22-caliber revolver hidden in the waistband of his pants.
Clark isn’t a stranger to the criminal justice system. His rap sheet includes convictions for simple burglary and theft in 2002, forgery in 2003, and possession of methamphetamine in 2013—all in Beauregard Parish. Under federal law, individuals with felony convictions are barred from possessing firearms or ammunition. This case falls squarely under that statute.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Louisiana State Probation and Parole. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon B. Brown is handling the prosecution, building on a clear-cut case of illegal weapon possession by a repeat offender.
Clark now faces up to 10 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for August 20, 2019. No plea deal details were disclosed, but the maximum penalties loom large over his upcoming court appearance.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Department of Justice’s nationwide initiative targeting violent crime through coordinated enforcement. PSN emphasizes focusing on the most dangerous offenders—like Clark—and pairing enforcement with community-based prevention and reentry programs to reduce recidivism and gun violence.
