A Wisconsin woman was left with serious bodily injury after an alleged assault on the Menominee Indian Reservation. According to official reports, the assault occurred on February 17, 2019.
The victim sustained nasal injuries requiring surgical reconstruction after being struck by the defendant with his fist.
The Menominee Tribal Police and Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case, which will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier.
Brad L. Blackowl, a 28-year-old man from Keshena, has been charged with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 113(a)(6).
If convicted, Blackowl faces up to ten years in prison, up to a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
An indictment is only a charge and not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
