Marquette, MI – In a federal court sentencing hearing, Bradley Joseph Hase, 43, of Marquette, Michigan, received a 60 month prison sentence for domestic assault by an habitual offender.
U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr. announced the sentencing on February 3, 2013, the date of the assault. This sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert Holmes Bell.
In addition to the prison time, Hase was ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his release from prison. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
The charges against Hase stemmed from an incident at a residence in Marquette County, Michigan, on February 3, 2013. During this incident, Hase assaulted his girlfriend, a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, grabbing her by the face and throat and pulling out her hair. At the time of the assault, Hase had been convicted twice of domestic violence offenses in the 96th District Court, Marquette County, and was on probation for one of those offenses.
Hase’s prior convictions demonstrate a pattern of violent behavior, which is why he was charged with domestic assault by an habitual offender. This charge carries a more severe penalty due to Hase’s history of violent crimes.
The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police, the Chocolay Township Police Department, and the FBI investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul D. Lochner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.
The case against Hase serves as a reminder of the consequences of domestic violence. The community must come together to support victims of domestic abuse and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
