Brandon Michael Browning, 35, of Claremore, is staring down a federal indictment on charges tied to methamphetamine distribution and illegal firearm possession. A May 2019 grand jury returned charges accusing Browning of being a felon in possession of a Rohm .22 caliber revolver and associated ammunition, a violation of federal law that carries stiff penalties for convicted felons caught with guns.
But the weapons weren’t just for show. Browning is also charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, signaling a direct link between his drug operation and armed criminal activity. He faces an additional count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime—a charge that often results in mandatory minimum sentences.
Law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation include the Claremore Police Department, Rogers County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Their joint operation underscores the multi-agency effort to dismantle drug networks operating across northeastern Oklahoma.
While Browning’s case centers on local enforcement action, it reflects a broader crackdown on repeat offenders who traffic in both guns and narcotics. Federal prosecutors are pursuing maximum penalties, emphasizing that felons caught rearming themselves amid drug operations will be targeted for federal prosecution.
The indictment does not allege a specific quantity of methamphetamine tied to Browning’s possession charge, but intent to distribute is sufficient for federal prosecution. If convicted, he could face decades behind bars under federal sentencing guidelines.
As the case moves forward, U.S. Attorney Trent Shores reiterated the Department of Justice’s commitment to targeting violent drug offenders. ‘We’re not looking the other way when felons arm themselves and sell poison on our streets,’ Shores said. ‘Federal charges mean federal consequences.’
